Hablemos de... Si decido quedarme, la película // Lets talk about... If I stay, the movie

¡Hola a todos! El día 19 se estrenó Si decido quedarme, adaptación cinematográfica de la novela Si decido quedarme de Gayle Forman (también se estrenó El corredor del laberinto pero no he leido el libro así que...).

Para esta entrada voy a hacer dos partes: mi opinión sobre la película como película (perdón por la redundancia) y mi opinión sobre la película como adaptación.

Como adaptación Si decido quedarme es muy buena. Ha sido capaz de captar la esencia del libro, no ha cambiado nada (aunque si que se ha comido varias escenas) respecto a la novela y los actores son fantásticos. Pero para mi si decido quedarme es mucho más que una historia de amor, es una lucha entre vivir o morir, entre rendirse o aferrarse a lo poquito que te queda para levantarte un día más de la cama y luchar. Y eso es lo que menos me ha gustado de la película. Porque se ha centrado mucho más en la historia de amor de Mia y Adam (que por cierto, Adam es GENIAL) que en la lucha de Mia.
Añado también, por ser un poco tiquismiquis, que eché en falta mis dos escenas favoritas del libro. La primera de ellas apareció parcialmente (pero ni de lejos se acercaron a lo que Forman nos hizo sentir al escribirla). Es la escena en la que se tocan como si fuesen sus instrumentos. En el libro esa escena es preciosa y ni siquiera llegan a hacer el amor en ella pero en la película ocurre en la fiesta de Halloween, dedican un par de segundos a la parte de tocarse como si fuesen instrumentos (suena horrible descrito así, pero si habéis leído el libro sabéis que está lejos de ser horrible) y al final hacer el amor en un astillero (cosa que me parece que no le pega nada al personaje de Mia).
La segunda escena ocurre al final del libro. Como a Adam no le dejan entrar, la cantante de la que es telonero se presenta en la sala de espera del hospital y para distraer a las enfermeras empieza a cantar y así Adam consigue estar con Mia. Esa escena, que es un pequeño oasis de alegría en el último tercio del libro, ha sido suprimida completamente y en su lugar Adam puede entrar por arte de magia a verla.

Y como película, Si decido quedarme es FANTÁSTICA. La interpretación de Chloe, Jamie, Liana (que sale también en Un invierno en la playa, una de mis películas favoritas) y el resto del cast es magnífica. No hay ningún actor que no haya sido capaz de absorber al personaje en todo el cast.
Aparte del cast las escenas, los decorados, las localizaciones, la moda (sonará muy tonto pero me encantó como iban vestidas Mia y Kim)y la banda sonora son de 10.

Hello! The 19th of September If I Stay premiered in Spain and of course, I had tickets for the first session to be able to watch it as soon as possible (if you want to know my opinion about the book click here.)

In order two review this film I’m going to separate the entry into adaptation opinion and movie opinion. 

 

As a book to movie adaptation If I Stay is really good. They have been able to catch the heart of the book, they have changed almost nothing and the actors played their roles amazingly. But for me If I Stay was much more than a love story, it is a fight between living or dying, between giving up or holding to the few things Mia still had in her life in order to wake up and keep fighting. And that’s what I liked the least about this movie. Because it focused too much in Mia’s and Adam’s love story (by the way, Adam is fantastic) than in Mia’s fight.

I want to add too that they took of two of my favorite scenes from the book.

The first one appeared partially and was the moment when they touched each other as if they were their own instruments. In the book that scene is so intimate and full of feelings but in the film they use it as an excuse to hook up and end up finally having sex in a barn (which is not Mia’s style at all). I think the film makes that scene a little bit nonsense and it loses all the magic that it had in the book.

The second scene occurs at the end of the book. As he came from a concert where his band was supporting the main singer came to the waiting room and starts singing so that she catches all the attention and Adam is able to sneak in Mia’s room. That scene, which is like a happiness oasis in the middle of all the drama, is removed from the movie and I think it makes the ending more dramatic. 

 

And as a film, If I stay is FANTASTIC. Chloe’s, Jamie’s, Liana’s (who’s also in Stuck in Love, one of my favorite films) and the rest of the cast performances are outstanding. They all have been able to portray perfectly their characters. 

Apart from the cast the scenes, the decoration, the location, the fashion (it may sound stupid but I loved how Mia and Kim were dressed) and the soundtrack was pure perfection.
